USDA funding has made FREE SAM registration & grant writing technical assistance available to help develop REAP Grant applications. The first step to see if you qualify is to make sure your business is located in an eligible rural location by checking your business address. Next, fill out the survey below and submit it and we will send you an email confirming if you are eligible. REAP funding is competitive. Bookmark the USDA REAP website for the most up-to-date info. Eligible rural RI small businesses can apply for REAP funding to cover 50% of Energy Efficiency Improvements (EEI) projects, and from 25% to 50% of Renewable Energy Systems projects. Recent grant awards have been made to Small Business & Agricultural Producer applicants in Middletown, Tiverton, Chepachet, Exeter, Westerly, Little Compton and Wakefield! An unprecedented increase in REAP funding is now available from the USDA! |

Renewable Energy System (RES)
A system that produces usable energy from a renewable energy source including distribution and storage components (Renewable energy is defined as wind, solar, renewable biomass, ocean , geothermal or hydroelectric source; or, hydrogen derived thereof). |
Energy Efficient Improvement (EEI)
Improvements or replacement of existing building, systems, and/or equipment that reduces energy consumption annually. |

Current 2024 grant application window deadlines are:
- Mar 31 2024
- Jun 30 2024
- Sep 30 2024
- Private for-profit entity (Sole Proprietorship, Partnership or Corporation)
- A Cooperative (qualified under IRS Code 501 (c) 12)
- An electric utility (including a Tribal or governmental electric utility) that provides service to rural consumers and operates independent of direct government control
- A Tribal corporation or other Tribal business entities that are chartered under Section 17 of the Indian Re-organization Act (25 USC 477) or that have similar structures and relationships with their Tribal entity without regard to the resources of the Tribal government.
All projects require a Small Business applicant to provide at least 50% matching funds to the amount of federal grant funds requested. Some projects will require a 75% match and limit the amount of federal grant funds awarded to 25% of the project's cost.

- Renewable Energy System (RES). or RES retrofit projects that produce zero greenhouse gas emissions (Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Nitrous Oxide, or Fluorinated Gases)
- A project located in an Energy Community as defined in 26 USC 45(b)(11)(B) and determined by the Department of the Treasury
- Energy Efficiency Improvement projects
- A Tribal Corporation or Tribal Business entity project
